Description
To make the Crushable brooch, I have transformed lace into porcelain jewellery – dripping it into liquid porcelain, then fired in the kiln. Micro-granules on the back of the brooch are like sediments. As a result, construction and emotion came. Deconstruction and structure. In and between. Forms twist their way out from the inside. They lift off the skin of the jewelry piece, exposing the structure, they create a second skin around the new volume. The structure breaks down, the surface fills up with forms that are then put under tension by being twisted to each other and to the piece. Between inside the porcelain and outside, original jewellery and addition, structure and facade. Pure form is interrogated in a way that reveals its twisted and splintered structure. This apparent chaos in Lacerable brooch actually constructs the body of the jewelry pieces. The internal disorder than produces the bar even while splitting it. I’ve actually constructed it out of fragments of that world. Frail souls and thoughts lend us to something white and strong. Burned in the heat of flame and transformed into someone else. White textures on hard but fragile material. With the simplicity of materials they are looking for harmony and individual expression. Opaque bodies and pieces of this preciousness tempt our senses. Natural metamorphosis enchants me. Delicate forms and mellow colors tempt our senses and create unique desserts. Working with emotions on a precious material like porcelain and bringing them into it, is like emotions coming out by hearing music.
Crushable brooch belongs to the Frangibilis collection and was made in 2014.
