Description
Calmella Calvolini collier from the Into the Unknown collection was inspired by sea slugs. The driftwood I use in my jewellery piece Calmella Calvolini collier is for me an unknown species, found somewhere at the sea. It is extremely light, dry and hollow. Maybe it is fungal. I use vivid blue colours combined with silver and red, to bring out its beautiful wood structure and temperament. The lacquer and the transparent resin also stabilize the soft cotton material. In combination with another material like silver and micro granules, I achieve the look of a new species. These have its origin in my imagination. To give birth to something new, something old must die. By focusing on the essentials we reach the blurred lines between natural and artificial. These relationships are the jewel in the composition of freedom and individual expression. Calmella Calvolini collier is a statement piece for those who love unique, colorful jewellery.
Out there are hundreds of species of unknown nature, strange like “aliens”. This is my vision about these natures. How I see these species, how they look like in my imagination. In the context are the material and the story, my searching in the past, for unknown and forgotten forms. I choose materials which I can “feel”. That means nature materials with some kind of spirit, materials with a touch, colour or light. I build a kind of bridges between the materials, fit them into each other, and make something special… How far is it from the depths of the unknown oceans until you reach the depth of imagination, an unknown place where everything is possible? And in countless combinations? We move slowly, swim at the bottom of our thoughts and discover again and again what we have not even dreamed of. . . You ask yourself where this fantastic variety of impossible forms and mystical colors comes from? What inspires the nature in her creations? Unknown Waters Whether alive or dead, animal or stone, everything has a chance to be. Through imagination the undiscovered world of inward beings is brought to daily life till a piece of jewelry is created. The question is not “Where does my inspiration come from?” But “Where does it end?”. Where it has no limits and no rules, it is inexhaustible. With myriads of sources, in all shapes and colors, it develops itself. Everything is possible, nothing is true! The deeper the unknown, the more intoxicating the world is. The inspiration’s floating in weightless state, it never stands still. By movements of the water pulled back and forth – a solid bottom does not exist. An unsatisfied thirst for knowledge, which drives to work, creates unique pieces that tell a story. The devotion to nature and jewelry rewarded with an open field of imagination, inspiration that’s wearable, and moreover an absolute revelation of one’s own feeling.
