Description
I designed and created Tiger`s Eye Ring in 2022. Inspiration for this piece came from underwater animals and organisms. The ring has a navette – formed Tiger`s eye cabochon and faceted carnelian cabochon, both cut in my studio. How far is it from the depths of the unknown oceans until you reach the depth of imagination, an unknown place where everything is possible? And in countless combinations? We move slowly, swim at the bottom of our thoughts and discover again and again what we have not even dreamed of. . . You ask yourself where this fantastic variety of impossible forms and mystical colors comes from? What inspires nature in her creations?
Tiger`s Eye is a metamorphic rock with a golden to red-brown colour and a silky lustre. As members of the quartz group, tiger’s eye and the related blue-coloured mineral hawk’s eye gain their silky, lustrous appearance from the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibres that have mostly turned into limonite. In some parts of the world, the stone is believed to ward off the evil eye. It is the zodiac stone of June. Roman soldiers wore engraved tigers eye to protect them in battle.
Carnelian is a brownish-red mineral commonly used as a semi-precious gemstone. Similar to carnelian is sard, which is generally harder and darker. Both carnelian and sard are varieties of the silica mineral chalcedony colored by impurities of iron oxide. The color can vary greatly, ranging from pale orange to an intense almost-black coloration. Significant localities include Peru, Sri Lanka and Thailand. It has been found in Indonesia, Brazil, India, Russia (Siberia), and Germany.
