Description
Pomander necklace was inspired by pendants worn for protection in Middle Ages. First to keep religious keepsakes, later in Renaissance as a recovery charm in witchcraft. I’ve made this piece in 2016 as a part of the The scent of Jewellery collection. Intimacy is both the ability and the choice to be close, loving and vulnerable. You have to know yourself and your inner self in order to share your self with another. Knowing yourself makes it possible to stand for yourself in an intimate relationship without taking over the other or losing yourself to the other. Intimacy is present in jewelry, secret and scent, which is very personal. I choose a pomander as an inspiration source for “Intimate jewelry”. The pomander was worn or carried in a vase as a protection against infection or as a useful article to modify bad smells. Sometimes it contained several partitions, in each of them was a different perfume placed. I choose silver for this pomander necklace, which I fitted on coral arm. The red colour of the coral arm is very intense, intimate and passionate. Through the small holes in pomander, you could symbolically smell the aroma. But in this piece of jewellery you can “only” find the crystallized aroma in the small hanging plastic bottle, which contains 34 garnet crystals. You can find this necklace catalogized in my book Into the Unknown.
